Overview

Cielo Partners is a merchant bank that opened its doors in 2007: we execute advisory and corporate finance mandates, we make investments in companies in the lower middle market, and we assist in the active management of some of these companies. We are particularly adept in “special situations” such as companies with financial, operational or legal challenges. The objective of this company is to build deep relationships with families, individuals, and owners of businesses in order to help them navigate the often challenging waters where family business converges with family life. Ultimately, Cielo Partners employs its skills and resources to create important incremental and sustainable economic value for our client companies over time.

Focus

We work with only a select number of companies at any one time; we recognize that we have limited capacity and focus only on situations where we can create additional value and diminish risk; our focus, specific to our partner companies, may vary from company to company; however, our primary areas of focus include finance, strategy, marketing, risk and valuation.

Special Situations

We have extensive experience with family-owned businesses that have obstacles to growth and profitability, suffer from internal discord, lack concrete plans that incorporate their business and personal plans and objectives.

Commitment

We make few engagements; our due diligence is extensive, and we only commit when we are confident that we can help our partner company achieve its objectives; it is our intention to work on a multi-year basis with our partners being fully aligned in terms of the strategic vision.

We take a long-term view regarding our partnerships and always with the same goal: make good companies great by virtue of our participation in the enterprise. We commit our resources (time, money, skills, business contacts etc.) and thus align ourselves with the owners of our partner companies for the long-term. Importantly, this commitment includes the following process:

Do a thorough appraisal/analysis of the business including all key aspects and define the challenges facing it

Work with the owners, family and senior management to think about the business differently

Recognize the importance of analysis within an international context

Conclude with sound, pragmatic and realistic action points from this analysis

Cielo Partners is keen to continue establishing worldwide partnerships. The following list of criteria is not exhaustive but is indicative of the target companies that we seek:

  • Revenues: US$10.0 – US$300.0 million
  • EBITDA: US$5.0 million or greater
  • Attractive market niche and growth potential
  • Product, technology, supply or other competitive advantage
  • History of solid customer relationships
